PRIVATE LIFE MANAGEMENT ELEMENTS OF PRIVATE LIFE 1. SPIRITUAL REALM- ROM 7:15-25 (b) Our Motivation- what makes us function as we do. Are we driven by our problems and pressure to conform or compete? Or are we motivated with a burden and a vision to fulfill our God-given assignment? (c) Our Intellect- deals with our mindset. It is a part of us which is capable of receiving and processing the truth. It also deals with our thought – life. Proverb 23:7 “As a man thinks, so is he” (KJV). The warfare always begins in the mind (2Cor 10:3-5). Our mindset must be subjected to the Lordship of Christ. (d) Our Rest- This is a desire for inward peace and reflection. God has given us sleep as away of initiating rest. Rest must be beyond leisure. A person who establishes a qualify time for rest (Sabbath) on regular basis is able to maintain a life of prosperity, proper perspective and remain free from burn out, stress and breakdown. Rest promotes sober & healthy living. Rest should not be confused for idleness, laziness or a mere leisure. A lot of time has been located today for entertainment and leisure than genuine rest. Divine rest is different from mere per suit for leisure. God initiated rest for refreshment and reflection in the inward man. Rest is not luxury but a necessity for those who want to have growth and maturity. The meaning of rest (Sabbath). When God rested, He looked upon his work, enjoyed its completed appearance and then reflected upon its meaning. You just don’t rest because you feel tired. The principles for genuine rest are-: i) Look back and exercise appreciation and dedication to the just completed work. It’s time for analyzing & assessing the work done; “and God saw that it was good” -Gen 1:4, 9, 12, 18, 24; 2:1-3. - It’s a time to ask; what does my work mean? For whom did I do this work? How well was the work done? Why did I do this? What result did I expect and what have I received? - Rest is meant to cause us to interpret our work, to impress meaning into it, and make sure we know to whom it is properly dedicated. - The Spirit of oppression comes with neglect to rest. Many bodily complications come as a result of overstretching the body beyond its limit. It is dangerous to overload yourself with too much work or else you’ll become a slave to your work and shorten your days on earth. It is not good for one to work many years without asking oneself the meaning of the work done. ii) True rest sorts out the truths and commitments which we are in. - It is time to ask ourselves; by what standards of truth do we make our decisions? - Separating the truths which are central in life is essential when one remembers that the heart is deceitful above all things. - In rest we celebrate time and space rather than keeping a law. - Rest helps us to re-affirm our convictions and commitments. - Rest is not a rule that restricts but a grace that liberates. iii) True rest re-affirms one’s intentions to pursue a Christ-centered tomorrow. - In rest, we ponder where we’re headed, define our intentions and make our dedications. - Leisure is time for mere entertainment and refreshment, while rest is a time for reflection, refreshment, satisfaction and resolution. - There is need to define our current and future mission while resting. - Rest is a deliberate acceptance of personal calmness and tranquility within an individual life. It is to bring peace in one’s private world. - Our inner Spirit is strengthened when we pursue silence and solitude – such environment cultivates inner presence of peace. God does not ordinarily shout to make His presence heard, but is clearly heard in quietness. - Loud voice or noisy preaching has nothing to do with anointing, it can as well mean the speaker is struggling or that is the way he was brought up in faith. - ‘Sound-proof’ your heart against intruding external voices in order to hear what the Lord has to say. If you hear too much from man, your ear may be too dull to hear God’s voice. His voice demands separation. - Write the impressions born within your Spirit during your time of rest. What you write down is twice understood as what you hear.
