PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN THE GREATER TORONTO AREA IN CANADA - Check out the upcoming evening offerings from the Richland Centre for Learning Innovation! Richland Academy is a co-ed elementary school for students from 18 months to grade 8 in Richmond Hill, Ontario. [They] deliver the influential first learning experience through a Reggio-inspired Inquiry approach that feeds the innate curiosity and creativity of children. RICHLAND STUDY DAY TOURS Offered September 2014 through June 2015 Spend the day at Richland Academy and observe our students engaged in learning, while immersed in our Reggio-inspired environment. We work collaboratively with you to develop an itinerary based on your interests. The day includes a tour of our campus, along with a lunch where you can dialogue one-on-one with a member of our Faculty . RICHLAND TOOLBOX SERIES As a community that embraces a culture of innovation and creativity, we value learning from one another and recognize the incredible breadth of skills and expertise that we bring to our profession. At Richland we celebrate these strengths and are pleased to offer a series of workshops lead by Richland Faculty and Staff. The Richland Toolbox Series is a professional development experience thoughtfully designed to provide educators with a framework to inspire their own practice. The selection of workshops available includes the following: Inquiry Planning Session Thursday, January 22nd | 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm $25.00 | Light refreshments provided Begin to plan and outline a deep and integrated inquiry for your classroom, including constructing big questions, assessment and experiences, by unpacking the revised 2013 Ontario Social Studies Curriculum. The workshop will include a tour of Richland Academy. Knowledge Building Thursday, February 19th | 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm $25.00 | Light refreshments provided Explore and experience the theory and application of knowledge building and the benefits it will have in your classroom and teaching practice. The workshop will include a tour of Richland Academy. Documentation Thursday, March 5th | 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm $25.00 | Light refreshments provided Join us to unpack this essential principle of the Reggio Emilia philosophy. We will consider the connection between documentation and learning; look at the tools of documentation; and consider effective ways for sharing documentation meaningfully within your classroom, school, and community. Creating a Reggio-inspired Environment in the Early Years Thursday, March 26th | 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm $25.00 | Light refreshments provided Explore the Environment as the Third Teacher; and discover what design elements and materials influence a Reggio-inspired learning space. We will tour Richland Academy, and discuss possibilities for your own environments. Please bring ideas, plans, and questions to consider for your own context. Exploring Materials Thursday, April 16th | 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm $50.00 | Light refreshments provided Materials encourage individual ways of thinking, learning, and expressing ideas. Join us to explore a variety of studio materials. This hands-on experience will provide participants an opportunity discover ways of introducing these materials and how these materials communicate ideas.
