Lynn Tucker, Production Assistant ELECT KEVIN BAILEY 20TH WARD ALDERMAN BIOGRAPHY Kevin Bailey was born in St. Louis and raised in Chicago’s Southside and south suburbs; Kevin was exposed to the value of leadership and community engagement early in life. Kevin was raised by and in a family of ministers. Kevin’s grandfather was the Bishop of the C.O.G.I.C for East St. Louis; he has several uncles who are Bishops and pastors throughout Illinois. As a youth, he was a champion of local community initiatives whether it was organizing local kids to remove snow for elderly neighbors, singing in the choir or leading the step group at his familys church, Colas Temple C.O.G.I.C in East St. Louis and Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit here in Chicago. Still today, a strong commitment to community involvement is evidenced by Kevin’s involvement and support for Concerned Citizens, a nonprofit organization providing housing, case management and supportive services for individuals addressing homelessness, substance abuse and in transition returning from incarceration. Throughout school, Kevin worked in the family construction business while juggling class, football, track & field, the latter in which he still holds records at Homewood Flossmoor High School. His passion for athletics continued at the University of Illinois Champagne-Urbana (UIUC), where he played for both the Illini Football and Track & Field teams and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. At UIUC, Kevin was chosen as Engineer of the Week and was selected to be the face of the top nationally ranked civil engineering undergraduate program. Kevin later studied in Valencia, Spain where he was immersed in the rich Spanish culture of food, music and dance and became fluent in the language. While overseas, he earned duel credit to attain a Certificate of Global Business Culture from University of Illinois’ College of Business while attending the Universidad Politecnica de Valencia (UPV). Currently Kevin works for Union Pacific railroad, where he has served in various capacities over the last four years. As an Engineering Associate, Kevin focused on emergency management and co-managed large-scale projects, some of which included the US Army Core of Engineers and National Guard where they utilized black hawk helicopters, excavation equipment, and other private and governmental assets. Kevin was later promoted to a Manager of Track Maintenance, where he enforced federal regulatory rules, state laws and company policies to ensure safe passage of Metra, Amtrak and freight traffic while minimizing risk to vehicular traffic and pedestrians, in addition to establishing a new on-time performance record on the UP-Northwest Line. Kevin currently holds the title of Manager of Track Programs and manages a number of large scale capacity projects located throughout the country including the high speed rail between St. Louis and Chicago. ISSUES Kevin Bailey is running for 20th Ward Alderman: Changing the Status Quo by addressing the current issues in Education, Public Safety, Community Development in addition to Health and Human Services.
