PTSO REPORTS VANDALISM, THEFTS The Pottawatomie County Sheriffs Office is investigating vandalism and several thefts across the county. The first incident is damage to and theft of soft drink machines in Olsburg. On March 18, it was reported that unknown person or persons had damaged a Pepsi Machine in front of 429 E. Highway 16 in an attempt to gain access to the coin box. Then on morning of March 19 it was reported that a Dr. Pepper machine was stolen from in front of the business located at 402 2nd Street. Total dollar loss on these cases exceeds $1,000. The next incident is a reported theft of landscaping supplies and equipment from Flint Hills Landscape, Manhattan. Numerous items are being alleged to have been taken. The items reported as missing were outside of the business. The theft is believed to have occurred between Sept. 13, 2013 and March 17, 2014. Sheriff Greg Riat said that the incident(s) were reported on March 17 and the victim reported them missing shortly before reporting them to the Sheriff’s Office. He added the victim does not know for sure when the items were taken, thus the large time frame. Missing items include a 2010 tracked Toro Dingo, CAT 60” trencher, Toro Harley Rake, DVR security camera system, two Stihl 420 concrete saws, two pavestone fire pits, a Husqvarna concrete saw, Pipehorn cable locator, three pallets of Highland stone wall blocks, two pallets of natural wall stone, green house wagon, stone bench, two Corona wheel barrows, Toro 72” Z Master mower, 48” Ditch Witch Trencher for Dingo, 2009 Grasshopper Mower, CAT A19B auger drive unit, John Deere BL7 blade attachment, orange Rigid power washer, black 24” auger bit, black 12” auger bit and a new blue Wolverine wheel barrow. Total loss at this time is believed to be in excess of $56,000. Some of the items taken were marked with a small Flint Hills Landscape decal. The final investigation reported by the PTSO is the theft of a kayak and kayak related equipment from the 16900 block of Ebel Rd., rural Wamego, sometime between July 4 and Dec. 30, 2013. Items taken include an orange 12.5 foot Future Beach Trophy 126 Kayak, a self-rescue kit, wet suit, kayak paddle, a kayaking vest and a scuba floating marker buoy. At this time the total loss is believed to be in excess of $800. The victim recently reported this theft in case the suspect(s) may have tried to sell these items and that someone would come forward to aid in identifying the person or persons responsible for this theft.
