PUBLIC ADVISORY ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE YUKON SOURDOUGH RENDEZVOUS SOCIETY RE: LACK OF SNOW/WEATHER CONDITIONS LEADING TO THE 51st ANNUAL YUKON SOURDOUGH RENDEZVOUS FESTIVAL On January 19, 2015 it was announced publicly that due to lack of snow, the annual Snow Sculpture Contest has been put into jeopardy. The Yukon Sourdough Rendezvous (YSR) Society has been advised by the City of Whitehorse that due to lack of snow, the City would not be able to collect enough snow to prepare for the Snow Sculpture Contest let alone be able to prepare the Snow Pad as well as other major components that are integral to the annual festival. The Board of Directors of the YSR Society will be meeting Tuesday, January 20, 2015 to discuss options available to the society. It is important to note that while the society will be looking at all options available to it, the last possible option being considered is the lack of our support for the annual Snow Sculpture Contest. “We are looking at all options, including asking our partners to assist in collection and delivery of snow for the Snow Pad,” said Reba Parris Beckett, President of the YSR Society. “We have received a quote for the cost to produce snow to ensure the pristine snow required for the Snow Sculpture Contest is provided.” At this point, the Snow Sculpture Contest has offered a sponsorship opportunity based around their event, and the YSR Society will consider all options including the cancellation of events/items that would require large amounts of snow to ensure we are able to assist with costs where necessary. The YSR Society hopes to be able to advise the public of changes to the festival, and the Society’s game plan going forward to ensure the success of the 51st Annual festival, on Wednesday, February 21, 2015.
