PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT To all parents of children currently - TopicsExpress

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT To all parents of children currently attending or will be attending MCHS. It is, as of this year a juvenile offense for fighting at school. Your child will be charged. The juvenile office informed me that this is a policy put in place by Principal Bush this year. I looked on the MCHS website to find the handbook and read the policy. First of all the handbook is not on the website and has not been on the website all year long this was verified by the Board of Education today when I talked to them. When I talked to Mr Bush about the policy and ask him why it was not updated in the handbook he informed me that he told all the children at the beginning of the year this was a new policy. At the beginning of the year we as parents have to sign a letter stating that we are responsible for our children to attend school. If they do not go to school we can be called to court for their truancy. Is it not sensible that we should also have to sign new amendments to policies that are not in the handbook or the Student Code of Conduct? When I spoke to him today he told me that the SRO officer is the one that was responsible for this. Then when I told him the juvenile office had said that it was his policy that he had put in effect this year he back tracked and said yes he had but he had told the students that this was the policy. He called his Librarian a liar to me and He also told me that bullying is not a crime but fighting is. My beginning problem with the whole situation was not being informed of policies and procedures at the school when we are actually accountable for our childrens actions. Now my problem is having a principal that didnt really like what I had to say because I had all of my information in order regarding the the lack of information on their website, and a man that lied to me and back tracked after he had been caught in a lie. This is the man that is supposed to be setting an example for our kids. I also have an issue with the fact that he told me he didnt handle the situation so he will have the person that did call me therefore: reiterating my point that he did not want to discuss it with me. Ive spoken to the Board of Education about the situation and the juvenile law office but my only course of action is to go ahead and allow this lack of communication between the school and the parents to take place because I cant afford a lawyer to fight this in court. I believe that Mr Bush should be liable for any money that I have to pay for this incident because he is not doing his job and informing parents of new policies. It really upsets me that we have been dealing with bullying for years and finally it came to my son standing up for himself because they do not stand up for the children. Now he has committed a crime and will be punished for it whereas the bullies go about their day as per usual, just to do it again tomorrow.
