PUP Cllr Julie-Anne Corr has condemned as sectarian thuggery the latest attack on a memorial to soldiers in North Belfast. This is the seventeenth time the memorial has been attacked. Cllr Corr said, Here we are approaching a time of remembrance for those who have lost their lives in conflict, and sectarian thugs yet again carry out a despicable act of vandalism on this memorial to three murdered soldiers. Cllr Corr continued, I cant imagine how upsetting this must be for the families as they hear yet again that a memorial to their loved ones has been attacked in this way. This must upset them more each time it happens. Cllr Corr continued I am confident that the blatant sectarian hatred of the perpetrators is not reflective of the entire nationalist or republican community and I am certain condemnation will follow - and so it should. Cllr Corr continued, However, we have passed the time for words of condemnation. Republican leaders can no longer bury their heads in the sand - they must provide leadership and address sectarian attitudes within their community. Cllr Corr concluded, I will be liaising with PSNI on the matter and would call upon any member of the public who may have information that would assist with the arrest, charge and prosecution of these vandals to come forward. You can do so anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
