PUP leader Clive Palmer says his inquiry into Newman Government could prove huge waste of money JASON TIN THE COURIER-MAIL AUGUST 30, 2014 CLIVE Palmer has admitted his party’s inquiry into the Newman Government would be a colossal “waste of money” if no one came forward with serious allegations of wrongdoing. Labor has already indicated it plans to back what has been viewed as a politically motivated investigation that would likely involve taxpayer dollars to cart senators around the state to hold public hearings about the Palmer United Party leader’s political enemies. The probe would examine issues ranging from the appointment of judicial figures, human rights abuses, rorting and the funding of advertising. Mr Palmer has long feuded with the Newman Government, publicly trading barbs with senior members of the administration as he attempts to gain support for his party. Mr Palmer conceded that there was a chance the PUP-instigated inquiry may ultimately prove fruitless. “There may be nothing to come forward about ... and that’d be reassuring then, wouldn’t it?” he said. Asked whether that would mean the exercise had been a waste of taxpayer dollars, he said: “Well, I think if no one comes forward with anything, it all will be a waste of money.” The Greens have not yet supported the inquiry, with the party waiting to see the final terms of reference before making a decision. Recently, the Premier has refrained from attacking Mr Palmer in a bid to shed his combative image with voters. Clive Palmer says there’s a chance the PUP-instigated inquiry may prove fruitless.
