Packed boxes as far as you can see. Sets made up of linen, toiletries, non perishables, back to school supplies, kitchenware, crockery and so much more ready to go directly to families in the next few days. Over the past week weve assisted more than 30 families who were affected by the fires. Donations from all around the state, from individuals and businesses that are so gratefully received by families. This is what WE have achieved as a community. Weve been able to get fresh food to families that have only had non perishables since the fire started, drinking water to families that are still waiting on insurance to fix their plumbing, new power tools to people to begin the clean up, new backpacks for school, filled with everything a student could need, Ive sent trained PTSD counsellors to individuals who require immediate support, arranged arborists, stump removals, clean up crews and driven from Morphett Vale to the Showgrounds and then up to the hills daily to provide families with urgent supplies and sit and talk to them about what else we can help with; we use our own fuel, time and money to do this; because we can see the incredible difference its making. Without us and the support of the amazing community; I really dont know where else these families would get help from....I feel let down by our government recovery committee, politicians and the people who are trained to help; the large corporations and the insurance companies that should be demonstrating compassion. Weve invited the Premier and Minister Piccolo to spend a day with our amazing team of volunteers and to discuss the lack of government assistance during this time...funnily enough Im still waiting for a response...
