Paddy Ryder and Angus Monfries free to continue club duties despite Essendon suspension HIGH-PROFILE Port Adelaide players Paddy Ryder and Angus Monfries will be free to return to training on January 3 despite former Essendon players being “provisionally suspended’’ until the case continues on January 12. The case over the supplements scandal will run for three days behind close doors in a Melbourne courtroom this week before it is rescheduled to resume after a break for Christmas. But the Power has been informed the provisional suspension applies only to matches and that their players who were at Essendon in 2012 during the controversial supplements program were free to continue club duties. The AFL Anti-Doping Code states: “Subject to clause 12.5 or unless otherwise determined by the AFL Commission in any case, a player will be ineligible to participate in any match’’, after receiving an infraction notice. Port Adelaide expects the case to be finished well before the 2015 NAB Challenge begins in late February.
