Page 2 Hed received an unexpected phone call from a man calling himself Zach Schmidt who had neglected to say how hed gotten the number, despite Flynn posing the question to him twice. Whether Schmidt intended to provide this relevant detail, Flynn could only guess, but his instincts were telling him the oversight was intentional. Theyd had several conversations now and hed learned that Schmidt was about to close on his purchase of a rundown and long-vacant lodge about 250 miles south of Flynns home in Daytona Beach, FL. He wanted the lodge up and ready for a test run over the high season so Flynn had until the end of September, three and a half months away, to pull it together. Afterwards, hed be expected to oversee renovations. “A serious re-vamp to a hipper vibe,” was what Schmidt was after. Flynn pictured pink boas hanging from the ceiling and hookah pipes adorning the front lobby. It made good sense, obviously, to hire decorating assistance and he’d identified several potential candidates in the nearby town of Black Creek. The longer Flynn delayed, the more hed have to bust his ass to meet Schmidt’s deadline but he could not allow this to rush his decision. Too much was at stake. Noteworthy among his concerns: he had no idea what condition this lodge might be in. Did the plumbing even work? Schmidt didnt know either. Finale Lodge had been vacant for 7 years at least and could even be haunted by flying purple pussy eaters, for all Schmidt knew. Flynn was only too aware that driving down to check the place out was imperative for his due diligence. Unfortunately, he hadnt a hope in hell of getting the time off to make the trip. Flynn Montgomery worked 6-7 days a week writing reports, commonly into the wee hours. Even still, it was impossible to keep up with the demands of his boss, Tatiana— who resembled a Russian tank which had somehow tracked over itself. It was no secret they despised each other. He’d long suspected the witch had been doing her utmost to set him up so she could get rid of him. She’d been in charge of the environmental team for the past 7 years and her abuse of Flynn had been unrelenting the entire time. Telling the Tank where she could stick it was obviously not the priority here. It made for a sweet damn layer of icing-- true, but the opportunity itself took this cake. We were talking about southwest Florida!
