Page 27 06/12/13 "A Lam Journey to Freedom" Good Morning, Page 27 Concentration Camp! October, 1978, I was imprisoned in concentration camp for approximately over one month. When all hopes started to depart from me, one small window of opportunity appeared to dissolve my darkness! Thanks the Lord, there was hope after all! But before anything going to get well for me, I had to crawl with my two hands and strong grip with my two bonny feet to get over to other side, the dark road of my freedom. Here is the story of my fate and how I managed to get away from Mr. Grim Reaper again… I was locked away with the rest of the detainees. There was about twenty of us. Six were young girls and fourteen others were young men. All the men were chained up in metal cuffs with their feet shackled secure into one heavy metal frame. A punishment for girls was free of shackle but still confined in same small house with the men without sunlight for one month. I could not see anything every night. There was a two-by-two half feet hole right in the center of flooring and this was purposed to be our toilet hole shared between six of us to the outside world. What I meant regarding the window of opportunity, this was it! It was such an opportunity that we were able to see each other at day and used it as an outhouse. What more could we ask for in a time liked this one. It was also the only hole gave us the bright sunlight during day. All windows were nailed shut from an outside. Door was also locked from an outside. One meal a day was treated for all prisoners. No shame was brought up, no genders were concerned. You can not imagine the feeling we all had at that time unless one has gone through the same experience. Even if I have to detail every single incident, there’s no copy of fright will ever move you. This is not something that human is supposed to be at. I was a slight percentage of luck and live enough to tell about it. We had to do what we had to do. The most concerns were about when were they going to open up those damned door to let us out. And when that door was about to be open, would some kinds of bullets sprayed upon us all? These were all we talked about among us, women and men. Everybody was so kind to each other for the light of days and night. Of nothing frighten us unless the changed of plan by the communist. I met one of the girls who I knew from the town of death. “Oh, my goodness you’re here too?” I asked her. I was so glad to see someone I knew. She was crying most of the time missing her mom. Nothing gone through our mind at this point because between the chilly night and starvation, the cold temperature frozen our thought. All we had to do was stayed very close to each other at night to keep our body heat to warm us. Page 28 My Soul Mate To Be Continued... Written by Nary K.
