Palazzo Mirto, (Palermo) The building is located in the historic center of Palermo, the Kalsa, an ancient Arabian citadel fortified. It was for four centuries the residence of Palermo Filangieri, and then Lanza Filangieri Principles of Mirto which is named the palace. I Filangieri are remembered even today as the most important Norman family in Sicily and southern Italy, the same lineage of Sanseverino and Gravina, all descended from a common ancestor, the legendary knight Angerio, the lineage of the Dukes of Normandy, which Italy came in the entourage Tancred and of which it was mentioned already in 1069. The Sicilian branch comes from Abbo Filangieri, living in the thirteenth century. First of the family to be given the title of Prince of Mirto was Giuseppe De Spuches Filangieri and, in 1642 is also reminiscent of the Filangieri Principles of Cutò, maternal ancestors of the writer Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa. In 1830 Victoria Filangieri last of his name, joined to Ignatius Lanza BranciforteCount of Raccuja. Their discendentii have lived in the building continuously until 1982, when the last heir of the family, Donna Maria Concetta Lanza Filangieri Mirto donated the palace to the Sicilian Region necessarily constituting a museum as a bequest of his brother Stefano Lanza Filangieri The oldest structures of the building date back to the thirteenth century, but after the construction phases of the late sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, the building has undergone a radical transformation. Other renovations were followed throughout the course of the nineteenth century to come to its present form. The interior is furnished with magnificence. Perfect example of the residences of the Palermitan aristocracy, the palace guards furniture ranging from the seventeenth to the nineteenth century. There are numerous Murano chandeliers, lacquered panels of China, clocks, porcelain, and tapestries. As in many contemporary residences, there is a smoking room furnished with the Chinese leather floor. Il ramo siciliano deriva da Abbo Filangeri, vivente nel XIII secolo. Primo della casata ad essere investito del titolo di Principe di Mirto fu Giuseppe Filangeri e De Spuches, nel 1642. Si ricordano anche i Filangeri Principi di Cutò, avi materni dello scrittore Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa. Nel 1830 Vittoria Filangeri, ultima del suo nome, si univa a Ignazio Lanza Branciforte, conte di Raccuja. I loro discendentii hanno abitato il palazzo ininterrottamente fino al 1982, quando lultima erede della famiglia, Donna Maria Concetta Lanza Filangieri di Mirto donò il palazzo alla Regione Siciliana per costituirne un museo per volontà testamentaria del fratello Stefano Lanza Filangeri Le strutture più antiche delledificio risalgono al XIII secolo ma, dopo le fasi costruttive della fine del Cinquecento e del Seicento, ledificio subì una radicale trasformazione. Altri rifacimenti si susseguirono lungo tutto il corso del XIX secolo fino a giungere alle forme attuali. Linterno è arredato con magnificenza. Perfetto esempio delle residenze dellaristocrazia palermitana, il palazzo custodisce arredi che vanno dal Seicento allOttocento. Numerosi i lampadari di Murano, i pannelli laccati di Cina, gli orologi, le porcellane, e gli arazzi. Come in molte residenze coeve, vi è un fumoir arredato alla cinese con il pavimento in cuoio. Gli ambienti di rappresentanza girano intorno ad una terrazza, arredata da una fontana rocaille e decorata da un tromp loeil di un giardino.
