Dr Scott is expected to highlight Zambia’s potential as a regional food basket, in affirmation of President Michael Chilufya Sata’s Patriotic Front Governments resolve to create jobs by revitalising the agro and manufacturing sectors. ======= Ministry of Community Development Mother and Child Health permanent Secretary Elwyn Chomba says 23, 694 girls against a target of 25, 000 grade four pupils in school and non-school going aged 10 years have been injected with the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine. In a Press Statement released in Lusaka, Professor Chomba described Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccination process first phase conducted in Chongwe, Kafue and Lusaka districts as a huge success toward global effort to reduce cervical cancer diseases and deaths. Professor Chomba says the second phase of injecting Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine dose commenced on July 29th and will end on 9th August 2013, with the third and final dose being injected in November. ============ The Council of Churches in Zambia has condemned the recent attacks on the Electoral Commission of Zambia by the Patriotic Front as a sign of bitterness following a loss in the recent by-elections. CCZ General Secretary, Reverend Suzzane Matale equally caned Transparency International Zambia Executive Director Goodwell Lungu and Patriotic Front leadership for expressing reservations on the conduct of the July 25th by-elections by the Electoral Commission of Zambia. The United Party for National Development grabbed the Solwezi East and Kafulafuta seats, while the Patriotic Front and Movement for Multiparty Democracy shared the Mkushi North and Chipata Central seats respectively. Phiri beat Patriotic Front aspirant Lameck Mangani, a development that has prompted Lungu, who is also Home affairs Minister to petition the verdict. ========= We take a break FOREIGN NEWS ====== FORMER Nigerian President Olusegun Obasajo and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) have described the July 31 Zimbabwean elections which retained President Robert Mugabe as free and peaceful. Obasanjo who is also the African Union Mission Head dismissed complaints of fraud, while another observer urged all parties to "accept the hard facts". While, ZANU PF has claimed victory in yesterday’s Zimbabwean elections, main leader Morgan Tsvangirai has described the polls as a ‘travesty of justice.’ Official totals are not scheduled to be released until August 5 (Monday), according to Reuters, but that did not stop Mugabe’s ZANU-PF party from declaring a win against Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and his Movement for Democratic Change party. And Zambia Direct Democracy Movement (ZDDM) Vice President Charles Kafumbo says the landslide that has occurred in the Zimbabwe elections can also happen in Zambia’s 2016 elections. ============ In Sports Botswana Coach Stanley Tshosane says he would be happy to see the Zebras at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) finals. Tshosane said in Ndola on arrival at the Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport that his side will put up a spirited contest but was not definite about winning.
