Panabo Mayor Silvosa vows lasting impact legacies, starts P51-M Eternal Garden project By Cha Monforte, Rural Urban News Reelected Panabo City Mayor Jose Silvosa Sr has vowed he would be bequeathing lasting impact projects before he wraps up his incoming last and final term. Last Tuesday he led city officials the ground-breaking ceremony of the P51-million modern public cemetery (phase 1), officially named as Panabo City Eternal Garden, which is scheduled to be completed by November 2013. The public memorial garden, located at Barangay Datu Abdul Gadia, has grandiose design and layout and can accommodate about 30,000 more deceased. The project is being funded on loan from the Land Bank of the Philippines. “This would replace our old cemetery which is already so congested. The Eternal Garden is one, besides the important others like the two-story commercial building for the central market to rise up. We are already through with our food centrum (building project),” Silvosa said. Earlier, a P55-million loan was sought by the city government from the LandBank loan for the commercial building. The mayor said he is awaiting for LandBank’s final approval for the loan, but he said he would be putting back the project for re-confirmation by the incoming new city council. Panabo City Economic Enterprise manager Nemesio Rasgo Jr said that the Eternal Garden project is another viable and affordable income-generating project of the city. He said that the congested public cemetery at Barangay New Visayas would be closed when the new cemetery starts to operate. In the new cemetery, relatives of the deceased can choose any of the various tomb types the new cemetery offers. It has 10,061 lawn lots, 4,810 coffin crypts, 14,880 bone crypts, and 45 estate, mausoleum lots. Rasgo said that along with the new cemetery and central market commercial building, the other big-items listed as priority projects in the Executive-Legislative Development Agenda for 2013-2016 are the wet market within the downtown’s central area, urban road concreting, drainage, baywalk development, various infrastructure service buildings and barangay roads improvements. “Panaboans can expect to see a great facelift in the city and exciting developments during Mayor Silvosa’s final term,” he said.
