Panel seeks report about encroachments of wet lands SRINAGAR, JUNE 12: A meeting of the House Committee of J&K , Legislative Assembly, constituted to ascertain the factual position regarding the illegal encroachment of wet lands for its conversion for residential purposes in Srinagar, Baramulla and Bandipora districts and conversion of Agriculture and Kahcharai land for residential purposes, met today under the chairmanship of MLA, Hakeem Mohammad Yasin. Legislators, Rafi Ahmad Mir, Syed Bhashrat Ahmad Bukhari and Aijaz Ahmad Jan attended the meeting and gave their valuable suggestions to make the functioning of the Committee more vibrant and result oriented. A threadbare discussion was held on various issues, including status and implementation of recommendations, the Committee made during 2013-14 and Action Taken Reports. Meanwhile, the Panel directed the authorities of revenue, forest, wildlife and SMC to furnish a detailed report about the measures initiated by them for protection and checking of illegal encroachments of wet lands in Srinagar, Baramulla and Bandipora districts. Earlier, Financial Commissioner, Revenue, Dr. Arun Kumar, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Mr. Shailendra Kumar, Chief Wildlife Warden, Mr. A. K. Singh, Vice Chairman, LAWDA Shafaqat Noor Barlas, Dy. Commissioner Central M. H. Mir, APCCF and Director Environment, Suresh Chugh, Commissioner, SMC, Dr. G. N. Qasba, , Director Rakhs and Farms Altaf Andrabi and other concerned field functionaries briefed the meeting about the measures taken by their respective department for protection and conservation of wet land. Secretary Assembly M. Ramzan, Special Secretary Assembly Mulkh Raj Singh besides senior officers of Assembly Secretariat were present in the meeting.
