Paradox of Civil Servants Pay Hike Bhutans macroeconomic - TopicsExpress

Paradox of Civil Servants Pay Hike Bhutans macroeconomic situation is undergoing through its most turbulent situations. Outstanding debt is projected to more than double to Nu 258.8 billion (B) by the end of 11th Plan (2018). On the contrary, salary hikes and allowances for the PM, Cabinet Members, Speakers, Chairs, MPs and civil servants - Nu. 1.79 billion yearly. In the next four years - starting from coming July until July 2018, the total amount the States coffer have to bear is Nu.7.16 billion. In pretext of pay hike for the civil servants, the Cabinet bulldozes to spike their own salary and perks. Members of the National Assembly too pretends to debate for the sake of debating ---- Members of Parliament too will be drawing Nu.65,930 (21% increase) excluding driver allowance of Nu. 6000, car maintenance of Nu.7000, in a month, etc..... Honble PM would be drawing Nu. 180,000.00 in a month (131% increase) excluding other perks, and Cabinet Ministers, Chief Justice, NC Chariperson, OP Leader would be drawing Nu.130,000.00 in a month (67% increase) excluding other perks......whereas the civil servants would be drawing a bare minimum of less than 20% pay hike and separate 20% house rent allowance - in absolute terms, civil servants would be drawing an increased salaries between Nu.1500 and less than Nu.12000 ranges. If pay hike is intended due to the high inflation rates and to reduce the gap between the higher income earners and the lower income earners then neither of these intentions are fulfilled. May be its all about the charity begins at home and making hay while the sun shines brightly on the PM, Cabinet Members, MPs, etc.... The common people or the lowest income earners are the most hit or affected by the inflation and not the Cabinet Members, Speakers, Justices, Chairmen, MPs, CEOs, Secretaries, Director Generals, Directors, Managing Directors, etc..........For example, a kilogram of potato is sold at Nu. 25 or 30 to all the buyers irrespective of what position or rank or amount of income they earn. Its the taxes and revenue of the country and it must be equitably distributed among all the citizenry.
