Parent Volunteer PTA Meeting Minutes Nov. 13, 2014 In attendance: Eric Safir, Gina Weaver, John Kelly, Lew Gardiner, Imelda Garcia, Juan Garcia, Stephanie Tuitupou, Idamae Hawthorn, Cecilia Sanchez, Antonia Sanchez, Vicenta Garcia, Andrea Quinonez, Juanita Delgado, Susan Hernandez (translator), Chelane Reitrock, Sergio Quinonez, Steve Miller, Cory Harville, Kristina Pineda, David Keyes, and Kristin Harville The meeting was called to order at 2:50 by President Steve Miller Introductions of the entire group were made. This year’s officers were introduced: Steve Miller, president; Eric Safir, president-elect; Corey Harvill, treasurer, Gina Weaver, parent liaison, and David Keyes, secretary. Principal’s Report: Dr. Lew Gardiner reminded the group that Tuesday, Nov. 18 is Math Night from 5-7 p.m. No PTA volunteers are needed for this event. Letters will be sent home the week of Nov. 17 regarding the SAGE tests given to students last spring. Parents will receive an information letter and a report for each child attending North Star. Parent Liaison Report: Mrs. Weaver asked if PTA needed to provide dinner for teachers attending math night. Dr. Gardiner said he would take care of this. Parents are concerned about winter weather problems. Parents may not help with shoveling, salt, etc., because of district insurance and liability issues. However, Mr. Castellano, custodian, will arrive early to take care of as much as he can before the district trucks arrive. Parents are encouraged to remind their children to use caution when on the school grounds. Children cannot be forced to come inside on snowy, cold days. Parents are reminded that children need to dress appropriately for outside winter weather. Parents were reminded that they are always encouraged to volunteer at school and with the PTA. Treasurer’s Report: Mr. Harville is trying to make sense of the information and documentation that he has about the PTA accounts. He asked to have a meeting with this year’s PTA president, president-elect, the former treasurer, and Ms. Weaver to resolve issues. Membership cards will be sent out as soon as they are received from the Utah PTA and filled out. New Business: Santa Photographs. This activity had been removed from the activities calendar at the first PTA meeting of the year. However, the group voted to reinstate the activity. Mr. Sergio Quinonez will be coordinate this activity to be held on Friday, Dec. 5. Mr. John Kelly will be Santa and Mr. Steve Miller will take photographs. Mrs. Susan Hernandez will arrange for decorations. Make a Wish. Mrs. Idamae Hawthorn explained this program sponsored by Macy’s for parents. Our school’s goal is to raise $700 for this foundation. The next PTA meeting will be held Dec. 11 at 2:45 p.m. The meeting was adjourned at 4:00 p.m.
