Parentage Clause Part of Constitution Problem, says Matale The Oasis Forum says the parentage clause is one of the reasons why the country should have a new constitution before the 2016 general elections. Forum chairperson Suzanne Matale said the parentage clause that excluded anyone with parents born outside Zambia to be eligible to contest the Presidency showed just how bad the current constitution is. “This is unfair because the purpose of putting it in the manner it is, is to stop certain individuals from contesting that is why we needed a new constitution that puts it clearly and fairly in it,” she said. “For us as the oasis forum it is sad that the government is putting the back, the issues of the constitution because the priority is to have a new constitution that puts clearly certain clauses and removes all forms of doubt.” Matale said that the organization will continue pressing for a new constitution before the 2016 general elections. zambiareports/2014/07/15/parentage-clause-part-constitution-problem-says-matale/
