Paris day 5 We finally had an early start. I woke up at 9am and we were out of the apartment by 10. We started our day with a visit to Montmartre. I had been before, but this time we stopped at the Dali and the Montmartre museums. As much as i like Salvador Dali, i have never been to his museum here in Montmartre. daliparis/index.html. The museum boasts over 300 pieces by Dali, a lot of sculptures and a lot of etchings. There are no original pieces of work. They even have a gallery in site which sells prints, most of which arent even signed. They do sell miniature copies of the sculptures, for quite a penny. In all, I enjoyed the visit but was disappointed by the lack of original work from Mr. Dali. The Montmartre Museum museedemontmartre.fr/ has also a collection of about 300 pieces by Toulouse-Lautrec, Eugene Delâtre, Alfredo Müller, d’Utrillo, and de Kupk. It does boast original oils and it gives the patron a sense of what it was to live in Montmartre at the turn of the 20th century. It also has the gardens that inspired Renoir to do his paintings. We walked down the hill and saw structures that housed Picasso, Toulouse-Lautrec, Van Gogh, and Dalí. And of course, we saw the cabarets that give the area its fame. From there we went to the Eiffel tower. Had a nice stroll down the Champs de Mars, and walked to Rue Cler, a pedestrian shopping street. We were smitten by the salted caramels from Normandy, and stopped at a boulangerie for pastries, but we passed on all the shopping otherwise. After Rue Cler, we went home. We relaxed and got ready for dinner. We chose le Gai Moulin, in the Marais. We had eaten there when we were here three years ago. The food wasnt as good and the prices were much higher. After dinner we strolled along the busy gay life. paris-gay/pages.php. We must report an increase in activity. One thing that is funny, is that because there is no smoking inside, all the patrons stand outside in the cold so that they can smoke. The establishments cordon off the sidewalk. On the way to dinner there were so many people outside at Le Café Cox, we thought there was a special event.... I must report that weve given up on moving to Paris. As it turns out, wed need at least a million euros to buy a decent apartment in Paris. Unless we win the lottery, thats not happening. We certainly hope Barcelona is more affordable. Were speculating that part of the problem is that there are a lot of British people in town, which means they see the euro as a softer currency and they can spend more of them, so inflation has set in the City of Lights. That would also explain the abundance of English spoken in town
