Parking and Traffic Impacts During Housing Move-In August 21-25, 2013 Between August 21-August 25, 2013, there will be several parking and traffic closures and impacts around the Fairfax Campus to accommodate the move-in of 6,000 resident students. The move-in process has been coordinated with Housing and Residence Life, University Police, Parking & Transportation, Environmental Health & Safety, and other key units to make the move in process, including for over 2,200 freshman living on campus, as efficient as possible. We realize there will be some inconveniences to the campus community, but making this move-in process work well is a university priority. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation over these several days. Parking Closures/Impacts Parking Lots C and L and will be completely closed from 10pm on Wednesday, August 21 until 6pm on Thursday, August 22. Rappahannock River Deck-General Permit Area Levels 1-3(including faculty/staff general area on level 3) will be closed to all but move-in traffic only from 6am-6pm on Thursday, August 22. While the reserved permit holders will be allowed in the deck to park on reserved levels 3-5 on Thursday, it is highly recommended to avoid parking in the deck as traffic will be extremely heavy approaching and inside the deck. Access to the reserved levels from August 22-25 will ONLY be from the University Drive entrance on level 2. The reserved level gates will be open to accommodate families and students moving in to the residence halls. Parking Lot I will be completely closed to all but move-in traffic only from 10pm on Friday, August 23 until 6pm on Saturday, August 24. Lot R is closed to all but move-in traffic from 10pm on Wednesday, August 21 until 6pm on Sunday, August 25. Mason Pond Deck will be used for those moving into the Student Apartments. Traffic Closures/Impacts Nottoway River Lane entrance to campus at Braddock Road will be closed from 7am-4pm on Thursday, August 22. Roanoke River Road entrance will be open; however, all those moving into the Shenandoah Neighborhood(Presidents Park) have been directed to use this entrance. Thus, traffic will be very busy at Roanoke River Road and it is strongly recommended to use the entrances at Mason Pond Drive off Ox Road or Shenandoah River Lane off Roberts Road.
