Part of Speech and Language development is the ability to plan, sequence, follow, and talk about tasks when they are completed. Below you will find an example of how I help my 4 year old develop these skills: Trip to the Dairy The night prior to going to the dairy, we read books and played with toys related to a farm. My Son was reminded of the names of baby animals, and that cows produce milk. The morning prior to attending the play date at the dairy farm, we discussed the sequence in which we would enjoy our visit. At the dairy farm, my Son told me the step we would complete next. He told me about the names of the baby animals, explained the origin of milk, ate a picnic lunch, including ice cream from the dairy, and enjoyed time with his friends. The evening after his visit to the dairy, he reviewed his day. "Today, we went to the dairy. The pigs pooped. The cows peed. We ate ice cream." I helped him fill in the gaps by reminding him of the other animals and friends that were with us. All in all, he grasped the general idea. Every night before bed, we talk about what we did during the day, and about our plans for the following day.
