Part of the celebration of the winter holidays is made special by the gathering of far-flung family members. We expect to be with loved ones. But when they are unable to return and visit for the holidays, especially if they are fighting a war or are otherwise in danger, a time usually filled with joy can just accentuate the absence of that family member.
