Part of the new Artist Statement, in progress: I have no interest in selling paintings to be kept in climate controlled storage in a basement somewhere… while the owners sit upstairs calculating their bottom lines and draining the life from the working and middle classes to fund their decadent collection of boxes. My audience is the disenfranchised literati, who would give up a month’s wages for the right to share a roof with a painting that speaks to them or skip lunch to buy a print… and then live with it, and care about it, and analyze it, and and let it affect their dreams, beliefs, and creations. I realize I’m not making the art that the museum-industrial-political complex wants to see and purchase. I realize this means I won’t get rich. As long as I make enough to keep my family intact and healthy, I’m OK with that. (We were pleased when we realized that our target audience could be described as the disenfranchised literati.)
