Past years Winner Catch Ups The Young Ambassador programme has been running in our District for about five years now. Has anyone wondered what paths these young people, who demonstrated such great leadership potential, have taken? Winner of last year’s District Final, Jonty Hooson was photographed at Russell on Saturday 19th October leading the official welcome to crews from Tall Ships who had just arrived in a race from Australia. The local media present commented what a superb job he did. Ross Turnball sponsored for sport by Opononi and Districts Lions Club. Sporting acheivements : 2001-03 Wesley College 1st XV 2001 Counties Manuakau Rugby U16s 2002 -03 Counties Secondary & Northern region Schools rep 2004 Counties U21s and Counties Steelers Chiefs U21s 2005 Counties U20 & Counties Steelers Chiefs U21 rep Ross had a break for two years to focus on his apprenticeship, where he syudenied Refrigeration & Air Conditioning at Akld Uni. 2007 -10 Counties Manukau B team 2011 -12 Played contract Rugby in St Aubin and Hertford County Rugby Union in UK Now plays for Karaka Rugby Premiers Ross is employed by Haden Mechanical, and received his level 4 certificate, and will finish level 5 diploma next year. He has recently got engaged and they are expecting this first child. Ross is buying his first home. Adam Booth : youth exchange student to Argentina. Adam initially was a very shy boy but came back from his trip full of confidence. After his trip Adam went to University to do a teaching degree in English. On graduation he went to Japan where he taught English in school and optional Spanish after school. Adam has done a lot of travelling around the world teaching in many places from Peru, Cuba, Asia, Canada, & USA. He came back to NZ where after trialing a few options changed his career path and had now been a Policeman for three years at the Avondale Station. Adam recently got engaged.
