Pastor Darren spoke this morning from Numbers 20:1-13 on The Battle of Anger. Numbers 20:12 Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not believe Me, to hallow Me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them.” Ŵe all battle with feeling angry. Its a natural feeling when someone is pressing our buttons. However in the emotion of anger we can too often do or say the wrong thing. Even as Christians we can feel anger too much!! Dealing with the issue of anger can be hard, and it is hard to live with someone how has anger issues. Moses was angry in our reading. That anger led to sin, that resulted in Moses and Aaron not leading the Israelites into the promised land. There are lessons we can learn from this passage: 1 Restrain yourself when dealing with angry people. Angry people incite other angry people. The people complained to Moses, but Moses didnt react - instead bringing it to The Lord. 2 Fet into the Presence of The Lord: Moses and Aaron wanted to get close to God before they reacted. God told Moses what to do - gather all the people and speak to the rock. Instead Moses lashes out. 3 do exactly what God tells you to do: Moses began referring to the crowd as rebels, and struck the stone twice - he was angry. Moses blasted the people instead of speaking to the crowd, and struck the rock in anger. He was in the wrong, because he was angry. Partial obedience is sin! 4 Unrighteous anger is always hurtful: God rebuked Moses for his unbelief and anger. How we handle anger results in how we represent God. Colossians 3:12-17 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. It is love that binds together all the other qualities God gifs to us. We are changed people. We should not allow anger to rule us. It is hard to get a testimony back. Paul tells us to put on compassionate hearts, having compassion for one another. We should also show kindness, humility, forgiveness. If you have a problem with anger, admit it before The Lord and ask Him to fill the void that anger once filled. Moses anger cost him the promised land. Your anger could cost you too - a close friend, family member etc. Do something before its too late.
