Patrick Sawyer, the man that imported Ebola virus into Nigeria, and Liberian Government new he had Ebola. Documents and newspaper reports obtained from Sawyers employer, ArcelorMittal, an iron mining company based in Liberia, shows that Patrick Sawyer was suspended from work and isolated after the company became aware that he (Sawyer) had contact with his sister who died of Ebola disease on July 8. The company, ArcelorMittal, also issued an internal memo to its workers informing them of Mr. Sawyers case and also referring him to Liberias health ministry for test and possible quarantine yet Liberian authority cleared Sawyer, who was already lightly ill, to represent it in a summit organised by ECOWAS to be held in Lagos-Nigeria. Posthumously, Sawyer and Liberian Government betrayed any bilateral trust that must have been built by these two countries over the years. Quite unfortunately, the Nigerian borders and our Immigration system is not working. If it is, why should someone coming in from an Ebola-conquered country, who was damn sick, vomiting and stooling while airborne, be allowed into the country freely? In other countries, he wouldve been stopped at the airport, together with other passengers who flew with him, tested and possibly quarantined or isolated or even deported immediately. Nigeria is the giant of Africa and as such we should have shown proactivity in such cases. Prevention is better than cure they said. Mr. Presidents description of Patrick Sawyers action as pure madness is not enough. Liberian government should be questioned, investigated and possibly sanctioned if found guilty of this strenuous and heinous crime against humanity. This is life for Gods sake! While trying to repel this inglorious injury, based on the countrys insecurity and nonchalant attitude, a Nigerian nurse, who had contact with the late ebola-virus victim in Lagos, who was said to be under surveillance by Nigerias health ministry, also managed to escape and infected over 20 other people in her hometown (Enugu State). Surely, she mustnt be that rich to have chartered a cab, so, imagine the contacts she mustve made during her trip from Lagos to Enugu. The reason why the dreaded Boko Haram insurgents has been successfully operating and causing havoc in the North is because of the careless openness of our insecure borders. Nigeria needs to show leadership-by-example in Africa as the most populous country in Africa and most populous black nation in the world. We need to Wake-up!
