Paudel (Devanagari . पौडेल, Latin. Pāudel) is commonly South Asian surname, mainly used in the Nepal. Nevertheless, Paudel surname is being used interchangeably in all continent with Poudyal, Poudar, Poudel, and some other variations regardless of its origination, religion, and race. Most people with this surname live in the Nepali and Hindi speaking belt of South Asia. There are many sub divisions in the Nepali caste which are based on peoples origins. For example, Brahmins who resided north of the Saryu River were called Saryuparin Brahmins. Vaisya who resided north of Saryu River were called Saryuparin Vaisyas. Originally they came to Nepal from the Pauda /Pou/da village of Kumaon of utrakhanda India. They use their family name from their origin as paudyal, poudel, Poudar etc. It is said that Paudels they are the original kumain because of their origin from kumaon of Utrakhanda.
