Paul Echols is trying to salvage something good out of tragedy. Echols, former Carbondale investigations commander, helped solve the murders of nine women committed by Tim Krajcir. He penned a book in 2011, In Cold Pursuit, spotlighting the lives of the victims and the decades-long investigation that began with the murder of Deborah Sheppard in 1981. He promised to use the proceeds of the book to create a scholarship in honor of the nine women, and, now, he is making good on that promise.
