Paul J Holzwarth-Class of 1953 Paul J. Holzwarth, 79, of Kittanning, died Sunday, March 16, 2014, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born April 19, 1934, in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, one of six children to Elmer R. and Rose (Hocamp) Holzwarth. Paul attended Worthington-West Franklin High School, Worthington, Pa. He was a member of the St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, in Kittanning. He was employed by Armstrong Cement (formerly Penn-Dixie) for more than 53 years, working in the laboratory testing cement until his retirement in December of 2005. A past member of the Kittanning Firemens Relief Association and officer of the Armstrong County/Westmoreland Firemens Association, he enjoyed helping his wife, Carol, cook, as well as cooking for the firemen at the firehouse. He also took great pleasure in working around the house, tending to his roses and rooting for the Steelers each season. Paul will best be remembered for being a nice guy and his dedication to Hose Company No. 1, where he volunteered for more than 50 years and held the positions of president and assistant chief. He will be deeply missed by his son, Richard Holzwarth and wife, Pam, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandchildren, Mark Jr., Brandon, Kayla, Ryan and Christen Holzwarth; brothers, Albert Holzwarth, of Petersburg, Ohio, and Louis Holzwarth and wife, Shirley, of Chicora; and sister, Marion Schrecengost, of Worthington. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carol A. (Shuster) Holzwarth, whom he married Aug. 9, 1954, and who died Sept. 10, 2012; son, Mark Holzwarth; infant daughter, Marie Carol Holzwarth; brother, Charles Holzwarth; and sister, Rose Marie Pennington. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at the BAUER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES INC., 515 N. McKean St., Kittanning. A funeral Mass for Paul Holzwarth will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2014, in St. Mary, Our Lady Guadalupe Church, 101 W. High St., Kittanning, with the Rev. Douglas E. Dorula as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Josephs Cemetery in Kittanning. Memorial contributions may be given in Pauls honor to Hose, Hook and Ladder Company No. 1, 208 S. Jefferson St., Kittanning, PA 16201. Arrangements are being handled by the Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc.
