Paul Schrader may have been the director to have best tapped into - TopicsExpress

Paul Schrader may have been the director to have best tapped into the early 80s zeitgeist...for me the decade began when I first saw the opening credits of AMERICAN GIGOLO on the big screen. But after MISHIMA, only LIGHT SLEEPER even hinted at the power his earlier work had. This awkwardly titled addition to the Exorcist franchise had one of the most troubled productions in cinema history, but I still cant forgive it for looking so bland (yes, I know the DP was) and being so dreadfully dull, and as for its digital effects... Neither a good Schrader film, nor a good Exorcist film.
