Peace, WE often search the TV screen and social media for Our Heroes, I always search my community and city because they are right here. Want to take a moment and salute one of My HeroesRegina Thompson-Jenkins. Yesterday she held her 2nd Annual Honor Ceremony for her Son Tre Lane. Sadly, WE lost Tre last year amongst the 41 murders that occurred in our city. He is a hero as well because in the midst of gunfire he SACRIFICED his life to SAVE others. WE were blessed to know and love him while he was here. I NEVER say I know how U feel, pain is personal and WE must always respect each others pain. Reginas pain is real and I often reflect on how deep it must hurt to lose a part of yourself. There is NO LOVE like a Mothers Love, thus there is also NO PAIN like a Mother who must bury her child. Everyday Regina digs deep and with the HELP/LOVE of her help mate(husband) John she keeps moving her feet forward. I am not married but when I arrive at that point, I want a LOVE/BOND like theirs. They truly COMPLIMENT/SUPPORT each other as they make the best of life. I gave thought to Regina and her will power and courage and I reflected on Ruth in the Bible. Ruth was a Moabite woman who after the DEATH of her husband gave up the security of her homeland and returned to Judah with her mother in law. It was there that Ruths LOYALTY and DEVOTION, she was brought to know and ultimately marry Boaz. It was through this marriage that she became the great grandmother of King David. DEATH is the COMMON denominator that aligns us ALL, WE ALL will deal with death and ALL are impacted by death. Tre s death shook the CORE of Regina and as she said yesterday I was ready to leave here. Yet, she digs deep DAILY and uses her PAIN to help others through their PAIN(struggle). She could have given up and allowed her depression to DESTROY her, instead with the love of her husband and family she is BUILDING tremendously. Regina has formed a Tre Lane FOUNDATION and every year HONORS people in the community who are doing great work. She also GIVES a student 1,000 dollars to further their education. She says very simply Tre is going to college through every student we help. Yesterdays event was EPIC and I again saw why WE dont have to LOOK for heroes on TV and social media.......WE have Great Heroes like Regina who inspire us to be better than WE dreamed WE could be. Love U Sis and humbled to know and work with U in your greatness. In ALL WE do WE honor Tre Lane, WE Love U Tre. Peace!
