Pearl to Ponder: – Dedication: Every Christian has been bought with a price so we shouldn’t do anything without first consulting our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Num. 3:40-45 - 40 The Lord said to Moses, "Count all the firstborn Israelite males who are a month old or more and make a list of their names. 41 Take the Levites for me in place of all the firstborn of the Israelites, and the livestock of the Levites in place of all the firstborn of the livestock of the Israelites. I am the Lord." 42 So Moses counted all the firstborn of the Israelites, as the Lord commanded him. 43 The total number of firstborn males a month old or more, listed by name, was 22,273. 44 The Lord also said to Moses, 45 "Take the Levites in place of all the firstborn of Israel, and the livestock of the Levites in place of their livestock. The Levites are to be mine. I am the Lord. (NIV) (Pearls of Wisdom Study Bible by Rev. Amos L. Lewis) - Commentary: Dedication is a word that is often overused but very seldom understood. To be dedicated to something means to be set aside for a specific purpose. As we come to our text, we must go back to the time of the Exodus. In compensation for God sparing the firstborn males of Israel at the time of the Exodus, the Lord declared all firstborn men and animals would be dedicated to Him. Of course, this wouldn’t involve their deaths but a lifetime of service. As mentioned in our text, the entire tribe of Levi would be set aside or dedicated to full time service unto the Lord as a substitution for all the firstborn of the other tribes. Lesson: God wants to be FIRST in our lives if we are dedicated to Him (Matt. 6:33). We have been set aside for His purposes. Therefore, we should give God the best of our time, talents, and treasure. After all, it all belongs to Him anyway!
