Pennyslvania trucker pulls woman from burning car after crash By Greg Grisolano, Land Line staff writer A Pennsylvania dairy truck driver’s quick actions are being credited with saving the life of a woman who rear-ended his rig Friday morning. The trucker, 61-year-old Ronald Ronniger, was doing 55-miles-per-hour in the westbound lane of Casey Highway, also known as Route 6, just north of Scranton, when his tractor-trailer was rear-ended by another westbound car driven by 27-year-old Sierra Derrick of Waymart, Pa. Pennsylvania state trooper Richard Bozym, who worked the crash scene, said Derrick was on her way to an interview and was distracted by her clothing moments before the crash occurred. “When she looked up, she had no time to react and went into the rear end of the trailer,” he said in an interview with “Land Line Now” on Sirius XM radio news. “Upon impact, the operator of the tractor trailer thought he blew a tire.” Bozym said Ronniger told police he thought he “had a flat tire” and pulled over to the side of the road. When he noticed Derrick’s vehicle stuck under the rear of his trailer, he exited the rig and went to check on her. “The trucker pulled over to the side of the road, just in time to see the vehicle catch on fire under the trailer,” Bozym said. “He opened the door, and he was able to carry the victim out of the vehicle and lay her down on the shoulder of the highway. The vehicle then became fully engulfed in flames, along with the back end of the trailer.” Derrick was transported to an area hospital with moderate injuries. She was also issued a citation for careless driving. Ronniger was “shaken up but not injured,” according to Bozym.
