People (especially white people) are always ready to talk about Americas racial progress and point to a black president as confirmation that things can and will change...well live in my shoes for just one day and you will see an America where racism is just a prevalent, just as evil as it has always been...yet it is funny how much our society craves a different narrative, a narrative that suggests that no one is biased, discriminatory, prejudiced or racist...sadly it is just not true...the thing that hurts the most though is when you try to approach people with a heart that says we are equals, we are one...but then are continued to be reminded subtly and not so subtly that you can never be truly viewed as an equal as long as your skin/culture/actions are viewed as other...this society is built/rooted/supported by the ideology of White vs. Wrong, the West vs. the Rest, US vs. Them, and everyday citizens are not just shown and brainwashed with these ideas, we perpetuate them, confirm them in how we think and speak, promote them in the things we buy and support, and need them to retain the privileges that exist in our daily lives...and I for one am tired of being treated like less than...having my plight ignored or invalidated because others (whites and non-whites) desperately want to retain whatever power is afforded to them for supporting these beliefs, today I encountered racism again, but the worst part of that line is the word again yet we have a black president so arent we post-racial?
