People have come up to me lately and said to me “Where in the Bible does Christ claim to be God? Where do His disciples call Him as God? I have shared with them John 8:58 which reads: “I tell you the truth”, Jesus answered, “Before Abraham was born, I am!” I pointed out John 11:28 where Thomas said to him,” My Lord and my God!” and Matthew 16:16 where Peter said to Him:” You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.” We can debate what was said and who said it forever but ultimately it is true: Jesus Christ is God. He demonstrated that He is God by His power over death, His power over sickness, His power over nature, His omniscience, His omnipotence, His forgiving of sin, and finally His triumph over satan at the cross. We can see the proof in the empty tomb. Because of His sacrifice we have been set free from the curse of sin. Because of His love we have been set free from slavery to sin. Nothing we have done or ever will do will make us worthy of His sacrifice. It is a gift...a gift from His grace. People mistakenly call Christianity a religion…its not. It is a personal relationship with the Creator of the universe.
