The no make up selfie, There has recently been a lot of protest - TopicsExpress

The no make up selfie, There has recently been a lot of protest against it, either news clippings stating its origin in England, or people posting photos of themselves wearing lots of makeup and feeling the need to boldly announce it. We dont live in England and there is nothing wrong with getting some inspiration from someones idea and using it for your own greater good, much like how bikers took a run for the cure and turned it into a ride for the cure, or how we created Easter seals for charity, Or one of the most dear to our hearts example of the poem in Flanders fields which inspired the poppy movement. This is not a mandatory movement and nobody is being forced, berated or condemned for not partaking. Somehow the no make up selfie went from its origins as a cancer fundraiser and morphed into a Beautiful and gentle way of encouraging women to have confidence in their own self beauty, very similar to Doves campaign to love the skin your in. I chose to partake and take a picture with no makeup, why? Because I have a beautiful two year old daughter who watches her mother, grandmother and aunts put makeup on before leaving the house or as a means to prepare oneself for the public eye. While she watches this she calls it putting so on oh so pretty she then asks, mommy can I be pretty too? When I thought about this, there are many women in her life who will not leave the house or face company au natural. Is this what I want for her? Do I want her to feel beautiful or oh so pretty only after applying makeup to cover up all her so called imperfections? No I do not. I want her to know she woke up beautiful and she will be beautiful just as she is all day long, and that a man should love her and find her beautiful just as she is. Nobody is saying makeup is wrong, I wear it on occasion and she will too, but she should know she is beautiful without it and it should only be done for yourself not Because the public finds it mandatory or more attractive. In conclusion, I do this and believe in this as a movement for self confidence and womens natural beauty, not because Im following the crowd or because Ive misinterpreted some fundraiser over seas, this is what it means to me and those around me. If you dont wish to partake that is OK, perhaps before protesting or condemning those who do or labelling us as misguided or misunderstood one should pose the question, why? Instead of passing judgement. This is not to inspire debate or cause arguments nor stir the pot but to explain where some of us are coming from and why we have chosen to partake in our version of the no make selfie movement in our circles of those women whom we hold dear.
