"People like to pretend we think rape jokes directly cause rape, that makes us look irrational and thus easier to dismiss.No, rape jokes aren’t going to turn a non-rapist into a rapist. They will, however, make a wannabe rapist, or a regular ol’ rapist, feel safe in the knowledge that when they violate another person, it will be written off as a joke. Society as a whole already fails to view rape as a serious crime, the jokes merely encourage that notion."
