People look at us and see the perfect family. They comment emphatically that they hope to be just like us one day. But like everyone else, we have our struggles. Between Crystal and I, she has had to deal with the brunt of it. Soon after we got married, she was running the household while I deployed to Afghanistan. She maintained her composure when mortar rounds interrupted our Skype calls. When I got back, she dealt with me and my struggles with post traumatic stress. She stayed when most would leave. She commuted 100 miles a day while going to school, working and being a mother. She still graduated with honors and was chosen to speak at her graduation. On top of that, she solidified herself as one of the best freelance makeup artists on the east coast, landed a job with one of the best makeup companies on the east coast with Allison Harper and Co, and landed a job with the prestigious University of Maryland hospital. She fought through surgeries and night after night of 103 and 104 degree fevers, always stubborn as a mule to stay home and fight it rather than go to the ER. She supported me during the tumultuous last months of my time in the Corps while I battled corrupt senior officers, always having my back when most stepped aside to let me fall. As we set sail from our little island of military life, she kept our boat afloat, working up to three jobs at a time, still keeping our house running and being a mother, no matter how many storms came our way. Shes still working three jobs and still doing amazing things everyday to keep our family moving forward. In the future, wed like to vlog about these years and the lessons weve learned, but thats another story. Happy birthday to my warrior wife, Crystal Starace Shea. The last three years have been wonderful but rough on you. I promise to make the following years as amazing as possible, because you deserve that and so much more. I love you from here til eternity.
