People of Australia - remember your personal vote impacts on everyone...educators, the medical profession, all employees, the elderly, the less affluent. There are not thousands of boat people arriving here every week. We deal with minuscule numbers compared to the US, Europe and England. My grandparents might not have been called refugees, but they left their homelands to escape persecution. I remember my grandmother describing scenes of Cossacks coming around and threatening the Jewish people in Kiev. My grandmother and her siblings left for Scotland...1905. She stayed with us after having an operation. We had an opportunity to talk and it was the only time she spoke to me about those times. I was ten. What if my grandparents had nowhere to go? Glasgow was a place to begin a new life. Imagine your grandchildren on a boat - their lives at risk, seeking a chance for a new life. Some empathy folks!
