People often ask the question, why cant I see God in my life or my situation? They feel as if God is not there. As I was thinking about how big God is in our lives I started to ponder how we could miss something so great. How is it that we can be surrounded by an awesome God and not even know it? The picture that started to take shape in my mind led me to summer days as a young girl laying in the yard watching busy little ants going about their business. I remember that I used to build little cities for the ants, and I would even trace roads with a stick in the dirt for them. Sometimes I would leave cracker crumbs for them to eat. I would do all this for these tiny little creatures that seemed to not even notice my presence....surely if they had, they would have ran away from something so big. Im sure that they never noticed me; I think I was too big for their eyes to see. I think we are sometimes like the little ants that I used to play with as a child. We get so caught up in our own busy lives that we dont notice that the path we are walking down was actually carved by the hand of God, or the increase/crumbs that we found were not just by luck or chance, but also put there by God. We cant see the hand of God because our perception is limited, not just visually, but spiritually as well. If you stand at a distance from a mountain you can see the whole thing and behold its beauty, but if you are up close and on top of the mountain, each step is just another rock, another piece of dirt. Perhaps it is the same way with God......he is closest when we see and feel him the least. “It is one of the commonest of mistakes to consider that the limit of our power of perception is also the limit of all there is to perceive.” To perceive means to immobilize ... we seize, in the act of perception, something which outruns perception itself. Truth is universal. Perception of truth is not.
