People say that every pot has a lid, and thats certainly been true - TopicsExpress

People say that every pot has a lid, and thats certainly been true in MY life. Just before turning 40, I listened to my lovely ex suggest that I really take a swing at this creative writing thing given, she said, the way I had with words. After the mandatory scoffing and get along wit yous were over, I joined a writing crit group and very quickly found my tribe. You know, fellow people with similar goals, similar mindsets that, when you group with them, you find yourself instantly better at being you. Kathryn calls it shwarma. No, sangha (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sangha). My tribe was very much in evidence during the 2014 Superstars Writing Seminars, hosted by the incomparable Kevin J. Anderson. Without letup, brilliant mind after brilliant mind mounted the stage and explained to me, and the rest of us in the room, how the current state of publishing was, at that moment, and what we needed to know to make value-laden decisions about our roles in this ever-changing field. We carried on a meta-conversation, we tribe, texting one another through Facebook Messenger and making pertinent comments about the topics being shared with us from stage. Somebody (Gama) suggested that we all write stories about purple unicorns, or purple potatoes...I cant quite recall, and an anthology was born. We recruited one of our tribe, a managing editor at Deseret Book, and Lisa Mangum stepped up and agreed to the task of herding us cats into some semblance of order. Forty-eight of us proposed stories, and she accepted twenty of them for publication, sometime in 2015, from WordFire Press, an imprint run by Kevin. Excited? You bet! My story The Monoceros was accepted today for One Horn To Rule Them All, an anthology LOADED with purple unicorns. Please consider getting a copy when it is printed. Ill remind you, anyway...
