People sometimes ask what my favorite saloons are. Well the first that jumps into my addled brain is McSorleys Old Ale House located in the lower east side of New York. Claiming to be Americas oldest operating bar (as do several other east coast saloons) it was my dads hangout while he attended Columbia. One of the notable things about this place is the bar only serves two things...McSorleys Ale...light and dark. This ale house was the subject of a New Yorker feature that became a book titled McSorleys Wonderful Saloon (Whose author is escaping me now but Im sure Ill remember as soon as I post this.) You can eat there, but limited menu and I promise no Vegan stuff. Try their lamb sandwich and, naturally, a McSorlys Ale.
