People told me that Austin would be weird. Ive seen some odd things - for example, today I saw a guy wearing the American flag as a cape - but I feel more at home here than I have anywhere else in my 20 years. People dont turn their children around in the bread isle and treat me like a leper because I have tattoos, no one has yet to tell me that Ill regret my body modification when Im older, no one has told me to give up my dream of being a musician and owning my own business and to just become a nurse or a doctor instead, nobody cares that Im not in college yet, I dont have to hear rumors girls (who I comforted about their own heartaches throughout high school) started about me because of my friendships with guys, and I dont stick out like a sore thumb. Two months here has changed my life in a way I hope everyone finds. And if Austin is weird (and if by weird you mean socially accepting of people and their individuality, environmentally conscious, trendy, musically inclined, welcoming, and constantly advancing), then by God am I proud to be weird, too.
