People view the world and experiences through their senses, and the mind filters and modifies these perceptions through its record of memories to make sure that these new experiences fit in with how we view reality. Often times, if a new experience is had that does not fit with our model of reality, our mind will change our old memories or alter our perception of this new event so that everything fits together. Meditation changes the way this process works. With practice, you will find that each new experience is viewed on its own, as it truly is. You may not be comfortable at first with how you remember processing old events, but an understanding will eventually come that you were just doing the best that you could at the time.
