Per Jayski: Tony Stewart hits walking driver with sprint car; authorities investigating: #14-Tony Stewart hit driver Kevin Ward Jr., who walked toward Stewarts car after the two had an altercation at Canandaigua (N.Y.) Motorsports Park, according to spectators at the race. Stewart was racing a sprint car in the Empire Super Sprints series at the half-mile dirt track in upstate New York, about an hour from Watkins Glen International, site of this weekends Cup race. He is scheduled to start 13th. The Ontario County (N.Y.) Sheriffs Office confirmed there had been an accident and its investigators are at the scene. There was no immediate announcement on Wards condition. Racing was canceled for the rest of the night after the accident.(more at the Sporting News) MORE FOX Sports 1 spoke with the head nursing supervisor at Thompson Health in Canandaigua, who could not confirm the identity, but did confirm that they have someone at the hospital who was said to be a racecar driver with injuries sustained at Canandaigua Motorsports Park. The supervising nurse, Barbara Manning, confirmed that the individual sustained serious injuries and that the condition was not determined at this time.
