Perfection : “Let me ask you a question. Do you believe God is everywhere?” “Well, yes, of course.” “Do you believe God is perfect?” “Yes.” “Then...by definition...everything is perfect,” Bert concluded. He peered at the distant peaks with a faraway look in his eyes. “Don’t you see, Buzz? Perfection isn’t some state of affairs, it’s a state of mind.” “Hmmm.” At some level, Bert’s words felt right to Buzz, but he was struggling to comprehend them intellectually. “You mean even unhappiness is perfect?” “Yep, because it causes us to look deeper. Any time I’m unhappy or angry or whatever, I try to see it as feedback that my consciousness is out of sync with The Way. To me, that’s hell. It’s not always easy and it takes discipline, but I know from my own experience that, with enough practice, a bee can achieve fulfillment and contentment beyond understanding.” “Fulfillment? Contentment? I want to bee happy and...” “Never sad,” Bert interrupted. “Well, yes. What’s wrong with that?” “I suppose you also want up without down, soft without hard, cold without hot, and good without bad?” “Don’t you see, Buzz? Everything is relative; the instant you define one condition, you’ve created its opposite. How can you have cold unless you know what hot is? How can you have up without down? Happy without sad?” “But Bert, you seem to bee happy most of the time.” “Buzz, most of what you see in me isn’t happiness as much as it is peace—the inner peace that comes from accepting this valley just the way it is.Whatever happiness I experience is incidental. Happiness cannot bee pursued; it must ensue.” ~ John Penberthy (To Bee or Not to Bee)
