Performance Alert! Mare - an award-winning Zapotec Rapper Born in Oaxaca - will be performing at UOs Beall Hall WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 16th from 4:00 - 5:30 pm! Mare is a rapper that uses her music as a tool to develop consciousness around inequality and to build networks within social movements in Oaxaca and elsewhere. In 2011 she participated in the first Women’s Rap Festival in the City of Guatemala where she shared her work with women from seven different countries. In May of 2012 a documentary film was made about her life titled “When A Woman Steps Forward.” The film was produced by Manovuelta and directed by Simón Sedillo.
