Perhaps one day, we will have leaders that understand that the key to development lies in serious governance and not gallivanting around the world to attend Africa Summits. What difference will Africa summit in Tokyo, Beijing, Washington or Delhi make when these leaders keep getting the fundamentals wrong? To even think that one of the biggest concerns over the US-Africa summit, which starts tomorrow, was the fact that Obama was not prepared to have a one-on-one meeting with the invited African leaders, is to put it mildly, bewildering. One would think that the major concern should be about putting an end to these aimless travels, and rather focus on achieving national and regional developmental goals. The irony is that these same leaders that are always eager to be summoned to attend Africa Summits in Washington and Paris are also the first to cry about external interference in African affairs. Laughable and tragic at the same time. But hey, what do I know, Im just an ordinary African. (PS: on a more positive note, the DC economy will be boosted this week, there will be lots of shopping and spending, the Africans are in town!)
