Personal Meditation on Saturday of the Holy Week In Johns - TopicsExpress

Personal Meditation on Saturday of the Holy Week In Johns narrative, Jesus suffered and died with freedom and dignity. In his arrest, it was the captors and his disciples that lost composure. He stood fully conscious and in control of himself when confronted by Annas, Caiphas and Pilate. Instead, these figures were so insecure as they held on, hid behind and insisted on their power and authority so irrationally. Jesus carried his cross and commended his mother and his beloved disciple mutually with distinct freedom, clarity and willingness. When he finally exclaimed,it is finished, he meant all is consummated, his full obedience to the Father. He suffered and died with full dignity and never in vain. Until his burial, his disciples afforded him with royal internment. His seamless garment reveals his being the true high priest. Our memory of Jesus should help us claim ourselves with dignity and freedom amidst our petty pains and suffering. It is in his passion that we gain the right attitude to confront and sustain any irritation not with passive resignation, with repulsive antagonism or naive sentimentalism or defeat. Jesus teaches us that suffering could be a noble occasion to discover and claim our real dignity as a person deeply rooted in the love of a faithful Father. Death is not a defeat. His death is a dignified end of fidelity that claims back a regal identity very sacred and eternal.
